Professional Growth Phase

Plan II - Professional Growth Phase

  • Library Media Specialists with more than three years of satisfactory service who are demonstrating standards of effective teaching.
  • To support Library Media Specialist-led self assessment
  • To promote professional growth
  • To enhance student learning
  • To provide feed back on professional issues
  • To focus on school improvement initiatives

Step 1 - Self Assessment

Each library media specialist who has more than three years of experience and who is not subject to a comprehensive evaluation, completes the Professional LMS Self-Assessment (LB1). The Self-Assessment provides the library media specialists with the basis for developing a Professional Growth Plan. The Self-Assessment is part of each library media specialist's personal self-development. Library media specialists are free to share the results of the Self-Assessment with their supervisors, but they are not required to do so.

Working with his/her supervisor, each library media specialist will develop a Professional LMS Growth Plan, using the Professional LMS Growth Plan: Description Form (LB2). Each supervisor will review this plan with library media specialists before the end of September. Together they will determine the length of the plan and the artifacts required to track the plan's progress. The library media specialist and the supervisor will sign the plan to indicate that is has been approved. The plan should be placed in the library media specialist's personnel file.

  • Comprehensive evaluation (every third year)
  • Library Media Specialist conducts a self-assessment
  • Library Media Specialist and administrator determine which components the Library Media Specialist will be assessed on based on specific need or interest
  • Formal observations by administrator with pre- and post-conferences
  • Summative review written by administrator and Library Media Specialist
  • Self-Directed Professional Growth
  • Library Media Specialist develop professional plans. Plans could be for one, two or three years.
  • Library Media Specialist and administrator review the plan and decide what artifacts the Library Media Specialist will need to track the progress on the professional development plan.
  • Prior to March 15 the Library Media Specialist will meet with the administrator to review their progress on the professional development plan and complete the professional growth plan review. the review plan will be placed in the Library Media Specialist's personnel file.
